OPEN CALL: FIRST ISSUE
Submission deadline: July 10, 11:59pm
Beantown Beat is proud to announce its first Open Call for its inaugural digital issue to be published later this summer! In the spirit of covering local, emerging, and DIY art events and matters, we invite writers, artists, and creatives to submit proposals or finished pieces regarding any of the following, broadly defined:
Current or upcoming art exhibitions/activations/installations
Current art world issues (civic, policy, space, etc.) specifically for the Greater Boston region
Critiques or insights into the art world or creative scene
We are open to traditional written pieces (think: exhibition reviews, art critiques) as well as more experimental writings and approaches alongside artistic and creative output writ large (an art piece, a poem, a performance Bingo card, a love letter, etc.). We are also open to standalone pieces as well as ongoing works (i.e. a recurring column or series). If you have something that embodies an emerging or DIY ethos with a Boston focus, we want to see it!
Interested? Please email the following to beantownartbeat@gmail.com:
FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS: A brief, maximum 150-words-ish pitch that explains what you’re proposing and why it’s a good fit for BTAB in the body of the email
FOR WRITTEN WORKS: A 1-page sample of the piece (if completed) OR a previous writing sample if the proposed piece isn’t finished yet as a pdf attachment
FOR VISUAL WORKS: A pdf/jpeg attachment of your submission (under 25mb total) OR mock up of your proposed piece if it isn’t completed yet
Not sure if what you’re proposing is a good fit or what category it might belong to? Send us an email and we will try our best to answer your question! All submissions will receive a response by July 31st at the latest.
Please note: as an art publication, we will not accept any work that is AI-generated or written - we’re interested in your unique voice!
